Taal Volcano

This post is a bit backdated, but here it is!

When my beautiful and talent friend Rebecca (Also Becky from The Kitchen Musical) came to Manila to visit me for the weekend, she wanted to do something adventurous. I mean, how much trouble can you get up too in 2 days? Apparently, a lot. With the help of our trusty tour guide Joshua Bautista, he recommended we take a trek up the Taal Volcano in Tagaytay. Turned out to be a GREAT idea!!

After a 2 hour car ride from home to Tagaytay, we finally saw the Volcano which sat within a lake. Which surprisingly also had a lake WITHIN the Volcano. Talk about a confusing comprehension!
The sky was threatening with dark clouds, but little did we know that it was going to be the absolute best day for sight seeing. We hopped into a little boat that ferried us across the lake and to the island. And yes, we wished we could have cued the Jurassic Park Theme Song. Was very appropriate :)

When we got to the small bank, I was greeted with a smell i'm all too familiar with. Horse manure. Or in layman's terms, horse poop. Ahh... The smell of fresh air in the morning. Nothing quite like it!
After paying for our admission and our horse ride, to my surprise, the horse didn't really look all too much like a horse. But rather, a little pony. One which I felt very sorry that had to carry my heavy bum up the mountain. I felt almost bad enough that I wanted to carry the pony myself. Little did I know that this little pony packed a lot of punch. I learnt the true meaning of 'horse-power'. Joshua, Becky and myself mounted our valiant steeds and set off on our hike!

The surrounding landscape was nothing short of breathtaking. The view of the lake, the main island, and the vast greenery that engulfed us on this tiny island were mesmerizing. Getting lost in the beauty of it all, we travelled for about 45 minutes till we reached the viewpoint. Not to say that it was a silent ride up the mountain. Quite the opposite really.

Once at the top, we disembarked our little power troopers who by then looked about ready to take a long drink of water. We climbed the few steps to get to the summit, and then....

                                                                 Truly nothing like it.

After taking in the magnitude of the crater and watching Joshua hit golfballs into it with ease, time for coconut! Nothing screams vacation more than a coconut break, right? With Becky insisting that her coconut needed splitting in order to get to the juicy bits, we had quite enough laughs to last us the rest of the trip back down.

Back on our little ponies we hopped and down the mountain we went! And yes, we sang the very appropriate song that goes along to a trip like this.

Nothing like an adventurous weekend. It's Truly More Fun In The Philippines :)
